The Market Opportunity
TenXc Wireless addresses the market for enhanced wireless access systems utilizing advanced antenna beam shaping to optimize the wireless link between base stations and wireless devices. Industry analyst, In-Stat, reports that the initial market segment on which TenXc is focused, mobile base station (GSM, UMTS, CDMA) site infrastructure, had an installed base of 1.8 million in 2004 and will approximately double by 2009. Equipment spending on emerging alternative broadband access networks such as Wi-Fi / mesh networks or WiMAX is also projected to increase substantially from current levels. This continued network build-out to deliver increased capacity, coverage, and quality is driven by the phenomenal adoption and success of mobile and fixed wireless services.
The Challenge
With the latest available digital air interfaces and network features (temporal processing) largely fully utilized, operators still need to rely on conventional solutions such as adding spectrum or additional cell sites to accommodate quarter-over-quarter traffic and service growth. With increasing costs and delays in obtaining additional scarce spectrum and new cell sites, service providers face significant challenges to meet demand with these conventional solutions. New modulation technologies like W-CDMA, OFDM and others offer performance improvements and lower equipment costs, but deployment still requires finding dedicated spectrum and incremental site investments for proper service quality. There is a need to enhance the core performance of wireless access systems by addressing the final frontier: spectrum efficiency.
The Solution
TenXc Wireless' antenna products enable multiple performance improvements while delivering lower network capital and operator costs to significantly improve wireless service economics. As the next evolutionary step towards 'smart antennas', TenXc antenna solutions use array antenna technology to shape beams and subsequently reduce interference and optimize the wireless signal link. Interoperable with current and future base stations and air interface standards, TenXc's products provide the needed flexibility to target network hotspots as well as to build new networks cost effectively. Operators will realize major performance improvements such as; increased network capacity, improved quality of service, and higher throughput for data services. By improving signal link performance, a carrier can extend the usefulness of their existing spectrum and network infrastructure before looking to purchase new spectrum, adding additional sites, or rolling out a new network infrastructure.
